Da Shiz-net

"Hezbollah is up to some shit. Syria, which equips Hezbollah and was involved in the assassination of Lebanon's prime minister, does need to stop that shit. Whether Israel would really end its shit if Hezbollah halts its shit is a matter open to debate," John Dickerson, Good Shit: Why Bush should swear more

now that's some political analysis.

He was correct, they do need to stop their shit. And Israel is making taking away the things they do their shit with. Who's fault is it they put their rockets in residental areas? And these people who go on about this being over two kidnapped IDF guys. Get real, this has been long overdue.

I call bullshit, Roy. Israel totally overreacted. Not defending Hezbollah, but jesus christ - the Lebanese (some Christian, I might add) children in the burn units aren't Hezbollah. The tourists caught in the crossfire aren't Hez. Hell, Lebanon isn't even Hez. Syria is Hezbollah. (not that I advocate nor desire Israel to start bombing Syria)

It is naive and ascinine to suggest that somehow the Lebanese government could control Hezbollah - they just had their Prime Minister assasinated by these fuckers. Even given that, Hez. were elected to the parliament, in elctions we demanded, because they at least represent some sort of, well, something. Same reasons Hamaas was elected in Palestine - for all intents and purposes, they are the government in certain areas. They provide health care, schooling, water - the bare necessities of society that the larger government is unable, or unwilling, to provide.

If we hadn't fucked everything up so bad in the beginning, this wouldn't be happening to day. If we hadn't squandered the opportunities offered by 9/11, this wouldn't be happening. If we actually practiced diplomacy and didn't speak and act with forked tongues, this wouldn't be happening.

I heard someone make a good comparison last night - when Timothy McVeigh bombed OKC, OK didn't go nuke New York.
